2012 Olympics Men’s Basketball Start Time, Odds and Picks

2012 Olympics Men’s Basketball has a scheduled start time of 4:00am ET on Sunday, July 29th when Group A squads Nigeria and Tunisia clash at the Olympic Park Basketball Arena. According to the latest 2012 Olympics Men’s Basketball Odds and Picks, neither of those two teams will be a factor in the medal rounds, though. To no one’s surprise, Team USA is a prohibitive 1/10 favorite ($1000 to win $100) to take home the gold medal. The only other Olympic basketball teams to earn an odds listing are Spain, France, Brazil, Argentina, and Australia. Of those countries Spain, at 5/1 odds ($100 to win $500), is considered the United States biggest competition.

Team USA cruised to the gold medal at the 2008 Olympics, posting a perfect 8-0 record while beating its competition by an average of 27.8 points per game. The team bested every country it faced by double digit points and only Spain got within 19 points of the United States, falling by 11 in the gold medal game.

That Team USA lineup featured Carlos Boozer, Jason Kidd, LeBron James, Deron Williams, Michael Redd, Dwayne Wade, Kobe Bryant, Dwight Howard, Chris Bosh, Chris Paul, Tayshaun Prince, and Carmelo Anthony. James, Bryant, Anthony, Paul, and Williams are all back with the team; new additions include Kevin Durant, Tyson Chandler, Anthony Davis, James Harden, Andre Iguodala, Kevin Love, and Russell Westbrook. The U.S. team will again be coached by Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski.

Team USA, which opens preliminary round play against fellow Group A opponent France on Sunday (9:30am ET start time), beat the Dominican Republic (113-59), Brazil (80-69), Great Britain (118-78), Argentina (86-80), and Spain (100-78) in exhibition competition.
