Cain had a string of eight straight wins snapped his last time out as San Francisco fell 4-2 at Oakland on Sunday. The big right hander, who is 9-2 with a 2.27 ERA, had little to do with the setback, though, as he yielded just three hits and one earned run over seven innings for his 11th quality start of the season.
Cain is 4-1 with a 1.45 ERA and .150 batting average against in seven starts at AT&T Park this season; the Giants are 6-1 in Cain’s seven home appearances.
Cincinnati, now 41-34 overall, will attempt to end its slide at two games with 24 year old Mike Leake toeing the rubber. The Reds are 0-2 in Leake’s last two starts despite the Arizona State product allowing just 11 hits and three earned runs over 15 innings. The right handed Leake comes into tonight’s start with a 2-5 record and 4.46 ERA; he has 21 walks to 58 strikeouts (82.2 innings pitched) and his opponent batting average currently sits at .276.
