Free Analysis: The streaky Mets are either winning a few in a row or losing several in a row which makes them unpredictable and inconsistent in my book. It also makes them a difficult team to play against as the Dodgers found out Thursday in a 3-2 NYM victory. After dropping four straight New York has back to back wins and are hoping they are in one of their up swings. The Mets didn't do much hitting but starter Chris Young kept the scoreboard manageable with two runs allowed on six hits and six strikeouts over 6.1 innings. The bats mustered only six hits with a pair of walks with David Wright going deep and doubling in a run while Andres Torres doubled in the game winner. David Wright is 10 for 18 with four doubles and a homer against tonight's starter, Aaron Harang. The Mets will send out Knucklballer R.A. Dickey tonight. Dickey (11-1, 2.31 ERA) was coming off consecutive one-hitters and had not allowed an earned run over 44 2-3 innings before he gave up four in the third of Sunday's 6-5 home loss to the New York Yankees. The right-hander did not factor in the decision, but allowed five runs and five hits in six innings to end his six-start winning streak. Dickey, 9-0 with a 1.64 ERA in 12 starts since losing at Atlanta on April 18, hopes to get back on track and earn a major league-leading 12th win Friday. The 37-year-old veteran is 0-1 with a 2.13 ERA in two career starts against the Dodgers. Dickey might be the last pitcher Los Angeles (43-34) wants to see in its current state. Though the Dodgers ended their stretch of 33 straight scoreless innings Thursday, they still suffered their ninth loss in 10 games. Thursday's defeat, coupled with San Francisco's 5-0 win over Cincinnati, dropped Los Angeles out of first place in the NL West for the first time since April 11. The Dodgers have totaled 15 runs and batted .182 over their last 10 games, and getting out of that rut won't be easy as long as outfielder Andre Ethier remains sidelined with an oblique strain. Aaron Harang toes the rubber for game two looking for yet another quality start as he owns seven in his last ten outings. Aaron (5-4, 3.81) has posted a 3.24 ERA in his last three starts but is 0-1 during that stretch. He is 1-1 at home with a 2.51 ERA, but just 3-3 with a 6.05 ERA in eight career starts against the Mets.
Free Pick: I'm gonna go with the Over in this one. R.A. Dickey was on such a hot streak and then he ran into the Yanks and his ER scoreless streak came to an end as he allowed % ER's in 6 innings. This is a bubble burst situation. After running so hot and then coming back down to earth he may just not be up for this one. The Dodgers are having problems scoring right now, but that won't last forever, even with Kemp and Ethier out. The Dodgers do average 4.1 rpg at home and should be able to tag Dickey for a few here. The Mets average 5.2 rpg and hit .264 on the road, but vs righties (away from home) their numbers are a bit better as they they hit .272 and score 5.97 rp/9 off of them. Aaron Harang has had a solid year for the Dodgers and at home his ERA is 2.51, but he does have a 3.94 ERA at night and in his last 7 starts vs the Mets he has a 7.16 ERA. Dickey's road starts have averaged 9.3 rpg, while Aaron's home starts have averaged 7.8 rpg. I sat this one hits 8 runs with ease.
