The UFC’s fourth appearance on the FX channel (9:00pm ET start time) will take place tonight when lightweights Gray Maynard and Clay Guida headline a 12 fight card at the Revel Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The latest UFC on FX Maynard vs. Guida Fight Predictions at Sportsbook.ag have Gray Maynard listed as a 29-100 favorite ($340 to win $100) over Guida. Guida is drawing 13-5 odds ($100 to win $260) in an underdog role. UFC on FX Odds at the offshore book also have Sam Stout, Brian Ebersole, and Ross Pearson listed as favorites in the other three main card fights. Those three fighters will be opposed by Spencer Fisher, TJ Waldburger, and Cub Swanson, respectively.
Gray Maynard's climb back to the top of the lightweight contenders list begins this evening with his showdown against Clay Guida. Maynard served as the division’s No. 2 ranked fighter for a good number of months, but a January 2011 draw against then champion Frankie Edgar and a subsequent loss (fourth round TKO) to Edgar in October of last year has him looking up at a minimum of two fighters.
Prior to his first championship match opposite Edgar, Maynard, a former All-American wrestler at Michigan State, had reeled off eight straight wins inside the Octagon. Among his victims were some of the top fighters in the division, including Edgar, Dennis Siver, Jim Miller, Nate Diaz, and Kenny Florian.
The 30 year old Guida comes into tonight’s fight with a 29-12 professional record. He last fought in November, falling to current champion Benson Henderson via unanimous decision. Before his battle with Henderson, Guida had, perhaps, the most impressive run of his lengthy MMA career as he pieced together four consecutive wins against Shannon Gugerty, Rafael Dos Anjos, Takanori Gomi, and Anthony Pettis. Guida won each of those fights by submission with the exception of the Pettis’ scrap, which he took via unanimous decision.
UFC on FX Fight Prediction: Guida is always a tough out; however, with the exception of the Pettis’ fight, he has seldom shown the ability to get past the division’s other elite fighters (losses to Kenny Florian and Diego Sanchez come to mind). For that reason, Maynard, who has defeated a number of top lightweights, is the pick. Per usual with the fight game, though, the odds are always steep with the favorites. Risking $340 to win $100 seldom sounds appealing. With that in mind, I will suggest the following parlay: Maynard (-340), Pearson (-220), and Story (-360) (would return $140.52 on a $100 wager).
