The Patriots went 14-2 in the 2010 NFL regular season and expected to easily make the Super Bowl but were upset at home by the New York Jets 21-28 as nine point favorites. Unlike the Raiders, who seem to be the joke of the NFL draft each year, the Patriots once again were impressive and snagged OT Nate Solder from Colorado and possible future Brady successor in Arkansas quarterback Ryan Mallett. At least on paper it seems the Patriots filled the needs on both sides of the ball via the draft and free agent market and according to the odds out of Las Vegas should meet the Green Bay Packers in the Super Bowl.
In June, Cantor Gaming released their line predictions on the entire 2011 NFL regular season and have the Patriots favored almost the entire sixteen game schedule: New England -4.0 at Miami, San Diego +6.0 at New England, New England -9.0 at Buffalo, New England -5.5 at Oakland, N.Y. Jets +5.5 at New England, Dallas +8.0 at New England, New England +1.0 at Pittsburgh, N.Y. Giants +7.0 at New England, New England +1.0 at N.Y. Jets, Kansas City +10 at New England, New England -1.5 at Philadelphia, Indianapolis +6.5 at New England, New England -7.5 at Washington, New England -6.5 at Denver, Miami +10.0 at New England and Buffalo +9.0 at New England. The Patriots are favored in every single game except when expected to be a +1.0 underdog on the road against the Steelers and Jets.
