240 Minnesota 10.5 (-110) Sportsbook vs 239 Washington St.
dime bet
Analysis:
This is the Gophers first ever visit to the Holiday Bowl. They did win last year’s bowl game under Tracy Claeys. Obviously the big news in this one surrounded Minnesota and their players boycotting practices for a couple of days in support of their suspended teammates. Of the 10 suspended players here only 2 are starters and both are in the secondary. That’s not ideal considering Washington St’s strength is pass offense. The Gophers did have a fine season in the first full year under head coach Claeys with losses only to Penn St, Iowa, Nebraska and Wisconsin (3 by 7 points or less). On the other side, Washington St is in back-to-back bowls under head coach Leach. The Cougars started the season 0-2 SU including an outright loss to FCS Eastern Washington. Similar to last season they rebounded and would go on to win 8 straight games before dropping their final two to the division champs in the Pac-12. They are led by QB Falk who had a 37-10 TD-to-INT ratio this season. We like the Gophers here who should have a “us against the world” mentality in this one and the dog in the Holiday Bowl is on a 19-3 ATS run.
