Analysis:1* Take San Diego (#960)
At one point in his career, Padres starter Brandon Morrow as considered an up-and-coming ace. He was the #5 overall draft choice in the first round by Seattle in 2007. When healthy, he’s lived up to that promise, but injuries derailed his progress throughout his tenure in Toronto. But he came into Spring Training healthy and pitched well, earning the #5 spot in the rotation. In his Padres regular season debut last week, Morrow was nothing short of brilliant, needing only 88 pitches while throwing seven scoreless innings against the Giants. Manager Bud Black: “He's got a lot of weapons. He's got fastball velocity, when the fastball is down it has sink, a good overhand curve, slider and a wicked change. (Friday) was a snapshot of what he can do."
Morrow has enormous ‘bet-on’ potential. So does this Padres lineup that has pounded out 25 runs in their last four games; in sharp contrast to a Diamondbacks lineup that notched only three hits last night. San Diego has won four of five since their 1-3 start. Arizona starter Chase Anderson labored in his debut last weekend, needing 100 pitches to survive five innings against the Dodgers; in trouble in every frame while blowing an early three run lead. Anderson struggled in a pair of starts against the Padres last year, failing to reach the sixth inning either time. I’ll take the better team with the better starter playing at home in this price range just about every time! Take the Padres.
