How to KILL a "5-Out" Motion Offense: And why Michigan is losing.

EVERYONE GETS TIRED!

Michigan runs a "5-Out" Motion Offense with a thin bench. On top of this, The Wolverines have 4 players in their top 5 contributors that are either Freshman or Sophomores.

When I mention the Michigan offense I want to stress the word "motion", because that's what the Wolverine players are doing IN EVERY GAME THEY PLAY, no matter who they are playing. They are running, and running, and running.

So what do you think happens to a team that has a thin bench and a ton of kids?

THEY GET TIRED AS THE SEASON PROGRESSES!

And what happens when those tired players meet a deep bench?

They get drilled.

Please refer to the recent 1-5 losing streak. The only win came against a thin Northwestern team.

Losing streaks like this are COMMON, for every young team, and we are lucky to have a public that is NOT familiar with the withering Motion offense!!!!!

Michigan uses it's bench, but the point-production of those bench players has very little impact on the bottom line. And this is why Michigan has to run their top 5 players for longer stretches than Beilein wants.

Manny Harris is tired, and he plays an average of 32 minutes per game! His point production shows that he's toast:

DeShawn Sims has witnessed a huge drop in rebounds over the past 6 games!

Don't underestimate the effect of attrition on these young motion teams.
