As a Seattle fan, if you put a gun to my head in this one I'd say take the 9ers just based on the sole fact that Seattle hasn't won in SF since VD got sent to locker room early and Singletary pulled his pants down. From and injury/X's and O's standpoint I'd take Seattle in a heartbeat. The only injured guy that isn't back on defense is Mebane. He's as solid as you get but as you saw last week, he's not everything. Seattle's main bugaboo on defense this year has been their 3rd down defense, I'm pretty sure that the Hawks are #1 in the NFL in a lot of defensive statistical categories. Their 3rd down defense has been aided by the return of their nickle corner Jeremy Lane, he got hurt in the opener and returned for the Giants game, since then the 3rd down conversion rate has been much better.
On the offensive side the the ball the loss of Max Unger is huge, he makes all the calls and it really shows when he's not in there. What most people don't know is that Unger has been hurt a lot the last 2 years, I think he missed 6 games last year. His backup that filled in quite nicely last year on the way to a 13-3 record got hurt and waived in the preseason, the third string center Schilling was a guy that was moved to center this year after being picked up from SD, he got hurt in the Carolina game and has since been put on IR. The 4th string center Patrick Lewis has basically been a turnstile, decent run blocker but he'll eventually get Wilson killed. Here's the catch, Seattle's 2nd string center, the one that played well when starting 6-7 games last year that got hurt in the preseason was resigned last week and is expected to play, major upgrade from Patrick Lewis. Not to mention, James Carpenter is also supposed to be back this week.
On the flip side the 9er's are really beat up, Justin Smith missed practice today, it looks like he might still play but he won't be 100%. Dorsey isn't ready to come back and Ian Williams is hurt, with the losses of Willis and Bowman it has forced guys like Chris Borland to step up, and for the most part he has but since Williams has been out the 9ers have been giving up an alarming amount of yards on the ground, not good when you're facing the league's #1 rushing attack.
The 9ers on offense has been a real head scratcher this year, I think it can be boiled down to a guy shy QB that isn't getting a consistent performance from his OL. That inconsistency has really hurt the usually very strong 9er run game, now it looks like Gore is banged up and may not play. It looks like Anthony Davis won't get out of his concussion protocol this week and that's a big loss with his back up being J-Mart.
Overall, the Seattle team hasn't shown me that they can beat above average teams on the road yet this year, where I'm stuck is that I can't determine if the 9ers are an above average team this year.
Good luck either way, the only thing I have on this game is the under teased up to 47, I see both offenses struggling in this game, as usual.
