For me, this topic requires a two part answer. I love all kinds of sports.. baseball, soccer, golf, boxing.. but football is has such an "event" like feel. The tradition of every Sunday and the week leading up to it.. every week has theater and meaning. And then you take this excitement and anticipation for the games and add the fact that I personally, just really appreciate and enjoy watching a great game - in any sport. A well played game, a game that has wonderful drama, heroics, and skill. A contest that is won fair and square with all of the flare, competitiveness, and strategy on display.. I have been on the losing end of a few epic games like this for sure but I never walk away as mad on one of these because in the end for me, I am also a huge fan of sport and witnessing greatness, achievement.. is always something I really enjoy. I remember I was at The Rose Bowl for USC vs. Texas and being a West Coast guy, I was rooting for Reggie Bush and The Trojans. We all know that this one went Vince Young and The Longhorn's way but I will never forget what an amazing College Football game that was. Win or lose, it had everything I enjoy about watching football.
The second part of my entry here is just the pure competitive nature of putting in the hard work all week, leading up to a game, and then watching your thoughts, number crunching, discussions, etc. all play out on the field. I think quite a few of us handicap games because we like to be correct. I am sure there are a number of vocations or walks of life that we could point to where there is the thrill of being right. When you open up your own business, you are doing so with confidence that you are going to be right. One makes decisions all the time in which they must risk something with the hopes of being right. For me, Football is the ultimate form of entertainment where I can quench my crazy competitive thirst for being right. I have said before, the money involved is great and striving for a profit is another facet of the process but winning and being good at something is more motivation for me. I told my Dad when we were in the thick of the race for The Hilton SuperContest, that of course the money is super.. but having the crown, the title belt, the championship.. to be a part of Las Vegas history.. THAT is what is awesome.
Thanks for listening, Team. Let's go have a great time this season. I can't wait.
