Rivers losing spot to Jimmer?

Heading into training camp Austin Rivers was likely ahead of Jimmer Fredette on the backcourt depth chart, but after a couple preseason games the two have probably swapped spots. For the third consecutive preseason game Fredette shot lights out, while Rivers put up modest numbers.

When will Vince Carter play?

Vince Carter is still sidelined as he recovers from surgery in the summer to remove bone spurs from his right ankle. When asked, Memphis Grizzlies head coach Dave Joerger could not give a date when the 16-year NBA veteran might be cleared to play.

NBA Update: 2014-15 Player Suspensions

The NBA handed out four suspensions on Wednesday after an altercation during the Chicago Bulls-Washington Wizards preseason game on Monday. Washington's DeJuan Blair, Nene, Daniel Orton and Xavier Silas are all suspended for one game since they left the bench area.
This ruling has increased the number to nine players who will be suspended for the start of the 2014-15 regular season, or the first game they are on a regular season roster. The second part likely applies to Orton and Silas as they are expected to be waived during the the preseason.

More tests for Vitor Faverani

Center Vitor Faverani remains out as his surgically repaired left knee continues to have swelling. Faverani doesn't know why the swelling is still occurring, so he's set to meet with the team doctors to have more tests. Faverani originally suffered the injury in February and in March he had surgery to fix the problem, but it has not yet solved the issue.

Will Bynum odd-man out?

Detroit Pistons backup point guard Will Bynum continues to miss valuable time as he is recovering from a hamstring injury. The issue came about during the first day of training camp and since that time he has sat out all practices and preseason games. Right now Bynum will likely be out of the playing rotation when he eventually is cleared by the training staff.

Boston Celtics rookie James Young strained his left hamstring prior to Monday's preseason game and naively did not tell the training staff. Young did play in the game and he thought everything was okay, but when he woke on Tuesday he knew something was wrong. According to head coach Brad Stevens, Young is "probably more week-to-week than day-to-day."

Last season the starting frontcourt trio of Andre Drummond, Josh Smith and Greg Monroe never meshed and as a result there were rumors that both Smith and Monroe were on the trade block. Stan Van Gundy is now in charge of the Detroit Pistons and for the first preseason game against the Chicago Bulls he started Smith at power forward and brought Monroe off the bench as the backup center. Monroe says he will accept any role he's given by Van Gundy.
