No, I understand what I'm saying. For sure, economics is complicated as hell, which is why even "experts" don't really know what the big picture is or what the best solutions are. To think that politicians do is absurd.
Fiscal austerity, reducing the debt significantly, requires the government to spend a LOT less money. Since a lot of economic growth (jobs) is driven by government spending (and government jobs), growth (and jobs) take a big hit when the government ratchets down spending. So, there is a built-in conflict in the system.
