Well frankly it was a depressing morning, on all kinds of fronts. As everyone around this joint knows I surely had a miserable weekend. Seemed to be contagious. Sad thing was this morning there was some things outside of sports lingering in our minds at the table. All my buddies and I are parents. We all love out children to pieces. I've lost a child so I sure don't take anything for granted. Well, my home town is a place called Moberly. About 36 miles north of Columbia in north central missouri. Just a nice, small town. Great place to grow up. Even though you may move away the hometown is generally a pretty special place in the heart. Anyway, I feel like hell this morning as a parent and for a town I care about being in mourning. Here's the deal. Seems a young kid broke up with his 16 year old girl friend. Okay, that shit happens a zillion times a day around the country. Only this young man breaks into their home this weekend and shoots the girl dead. Then, when her older sister pops into the room to help her out he pops her too, yup, she is now gone. Then the kid turns the gun onto himself and ends it for himself. The poor parents were asleep and it all happened so quickly that by the time the dad raced into the bedroom the deal was done. What a scene to wake up to. The whole thing just made us all sick this morning to contemplate.
We all finished our breakfast, wished each other a good day and went about our business. Sometimes that is all you can say or do. Please keep a good thought for these poor parents and what they are confronted with this week.
