It never cease to amaze me. All of these people that have this unbridled distaste for child molesters who somehow think tearing down Joe Paterno is acceptable. I like to ask them this.....how many times have you called the police? How many times?
I'm just an ordinary guy, pretty normal in many ways, and I have never called the police. I have been out 100's of nights drinking with friends. 100's of nights. I have seen 1000's of people over the years drink more than a beer an hour. I'm sure 100's or even 1000's of these people have driven home. It's happened 1000's of times and I have never called the cops to report a drunk driver, not once...and I don't know anyone that has. Does that make me a criminal?
I have been to the mall a ton of times, been to sporting events 100's of times, I have been in 100's of situations where people are with children and I have seen a ton of adults put their hands on kids. 100's of times. I don't know the situations, but usually a kid is acting up and an adult uses their hands to make the child act in a way they think is appropriate. I have never called the police on these people. Not once. Does that make me a criminal?
Were you there when Joe Paterno was confronted with the information about Sandusky? Were you in the room when he reported it to his boss and his bosses boss? Didn't think so, I wasn't there either.
So hey, just asking. How many times have you called the police to report child abuse. 500? 1000? 10? Are you telling me you've never seen an adult put their hands on a kid? If so, why didn't you call it in?
There was an MLK parade right by my office today. I saw a woman with a couple of kids going to the parade. One of the kids strayed a little from her and she reached out, grabbed his arm and yanked him back right beside her. Should I have called the cops? She put her hands on him and pulled him plenty hard. If she did that to me it could be considered assault. Would you have called the cops?
Hell yes, I compare people like Joe Paterno to people like Thomas Jefferson. Abe Lincoln was the 16th President and he freed the slaves. That means that the people of this Country elected 15 guys that thought slavery was OK. Those 15 guys are held in the highest regard in this Country....why don't they have to go down with the ship? It's obvious that slavery was heinous. How come they don't get thrown out with the bath water?
I'm not a lawyer, so I'll never be a judge, but if the life of Joe Paterno was wrong, then I have no idea what is right.
Have a good night -
Joe D
