I think our point is, why are we still celebrating every time someone comes out? Why is that still a big deal? Why do the President and First Lady feel the need to celebrate his announcement? What do they know about being gay?
I think they will stop celebrating when a chunk of society no longer freaks out about it. Off-the-record NFL execs saying that they will possibly pass on him based on this info shows that everyone is not "on-board" with his lifestyle and it "not being a big deal anymore".
And, I guess, it does take some sort of fortitude to come out for them, since by doing so, they are opening themselves up to a certain amount of abuse/ridicule/exclusion, etc. In other words, there probably won't be as much "spectacle" about it, once they get treated basically the same as other people.
