Last year, Florida State lost a first round draft choice to the NFL draft at QB (EJ Manuel) and started a redshirt frosh QB. Turns out that untested frosh QB was pretty good, as Adrian McPherson led the Seminoles to a national championship.
Two years ago, Notre Dame had a QB controversy but redshirt frosh Everett Golston took over the position and the Fighting Irish went 12-0 in the regular season and played in the national title game against Alabama.
And I seem to remember an untested frosh QB named Johnny Manziel winning the Heisman Trophy that year.
Ohio State still has a relatively easy schedule. They'll be favored in at least 11 of their 12 regular season games, the lone exception coming in East Lansing against Michigan State on November 8th. One single upset and the Buckeyes could go into the Big 10 title game undefeated, with a berth in the playoffs on the line.
JT Barrett ran the first string offense extensively in spring ball while Miller was recuperating from offseason surgery. Now Barrett will have a couple of weeks with the first string offense here in camp to get up to speed.
The markets have made a 4.5 point adjustment from Miller to Barrett, with Ohio State going from -17 to -12.5 against Navy in their opener following the injury news. That's not a huge adjustment, nor should it be. In my opinion, there's probably more value betting ON Ohio State right now than there's been at any point this offseason.
