The ACC - Big Ten Challenge continues tonight, and I found another game I really feel is a money maker for the player. Michigan comes into this game, a favorite and at home, and fresh off a easy win over Mt. St. Mary 64-47. However the game before that, South Carolina beat Michigan, upsetting them 61- 46. Michigan could not have played any worse. Michigan was 2-26 from 3 point range. Michigan is currently 229th in the country in scoring. Yet tonight, lines makers feel Michigan should be favored, although they are at home.
Virginia Tech has been shooting well to start the season averaging 48.5% this year. Hokie Zach LaDay seems to have emerged as a very pleasant surprise unexpectedly, in his senior year, as earlry in the season he came off the bench and now seems to be a leader who now averages 34 minutes a game, and as now a starter. Surprisingly now LaDay leads Virginia Tech in points scored, rebounds and and steals along with blocked shots. The only game LaDay was "shut down" was when Texas A&M stopped him cold, and A&M got the win outright.
There is no doubt in my mind that Virginia Tech can match up well with the size of Michigan so it will come down to which team can shoot contested shots better than the other. I expect Virginia Tech to outshoot Michigan as so far the Hokies have faced a tougher schedule. This is one of those games I am perplexed as to how Michigan can be such a larger favorite despite being at home.
So I see Virginia Tech keeping this game super close throughout, if not see the lead go back and forth with Virginia Tech getting my vote to at least cover the spread if not win outright.
My prediction: Take VIRGINIA TECH +6 1/.2
