The following request is an exercise in abject futility. I know this going in. But you can’t hit the lottery if you don’t but a ticket, so here goes.
Dear NFL,
Your officiating stinks. Hire some full time people. The too old and too slow part-timers you’ve got filling the roles simply aren’t getting the job done. Your product suffers because of it.
I understand the job is difficult. That’s why you need full-time employees. Tough jobs aren’t generally going to get done well by what amounts to moonlighters. If I need surgery, and my choices are an actual doctor, or an insurance salesman who meanders over to the hospital one day per week, I’ll go with the doctor.
I also get the fact that you are all about the money. Hiring full-time officials would cost a bundle, and I’m pretty sure that your bottom line outweighs everything else. Otherwise, you wouldn’t play Thursday night games, nor would there even be a remote consideration of expanding the schedule. Neither is good for the health of the players, both are good for your profits. So the thought of shelling out serious bucks to employ people whose main source of income would be officiating goes against the bean counter philosophy you hold so dear to your hearts and wallets.
But do it anyway. The fans would appreciate it, and chances are so would the coaches and players. You owners might actually like it a little bit as well, as that way your players could decide the outcome of games, rather than an AARP member wearing stripes.
Thanks in advance for your consideration.
