Last night the Rebels needed a late comeback to force OT before beating the Portland Pilots by 2 points. Is that really something for this team to get excited about?
They won a game vs a middle of the pact WCC team that was missing it's best player and they still needed OT to get it.
Dave feels that UNLV just isn't a good team right now and Beating the likes of Temple and Portland doesn't really prove much. They will have a tough time coming up vs a schedule that includes Arizona, Kansas and Utah. Dave doesn't know what the answer is.
UNLV made their comeback using a trapping and pressing style of defense and he feels that if it works they should continue to use it. They won't beat the likes of the 3 above without using some sort of gimmick. He feels it will be a long season if they play just a base defense. The team is completely flawed right now.
Dave feels that Dave rice has done a good job recruiting, but the fans are looking for more results on the court. They will not make the NCAA tournament this year and in looking over there schedule if they win the games they are supposed to they will probably have a 17-14 record. That will put them in the NIT at best.
Neither Scott or Dave is calling for Dave Rice to get the Ax, but he does need someone to come in and help him with the X's and Os.
