I like the ferdinanda beach area on the atlantic side. Jax is close for big city stuff, but laid back. Amelia island has condo's and retirement living w/ golf, beach, and know some folks who retired there. it's nice but can be pricey.
on the gulf side like the handle, or maybe as far down as venice. venice (retired mobsters) has some baking soda sand and Sarasota good for sailing and upscale coastal w/o all the rift raft. st pete is short drive up.
surrounding inland area around p-cola is real reasonable and know tons of folks who have retired in the area. not much to do, but climate and beach are nice.
gulf in bama and missy get a little trashy, imo.
my vote: north florida if stuck on gator. lots of nice lake retirement living in Tex too.
savannah is nice but too much foot traffic and traffic in general. if you can be untethered from work, I'm thinking boon-docks. tired of dealing w/ MOFO"s and don't need it if the general store doesn't carry or can't grow myself.
Are you looking for a place to lay down, or still got something in the tank?
