I hear ya, Rebus. You make great points. Just a few simple reasons though why I am going against Koepka this week..
1. Obviously we know Bubba is a horse for this course with two wins already in eight appearances - and he is a horse for course type player as we have seen him repeat at Augusta and Riviera.. and he repeatedly contends in New Orleans, another easy track that is a Dye design. Also, he loves this place, how he's treated, the course.. he is in a real comfort zone here and that's big for Bubba.
2. Koepka, as you know, had been nursing an ankle injury, and in speaking with his caddie last week, who is a friend of a friend, he did not think Brooks would hold up all four days at Baltusrol. We saw quite to the contrary that he did hold up, quite admirably finishing 4th, and that has me wondering how much stress he put on that ankle, how much he toughed it out, and how will he do this week in a tournament he cares much less about - if that wheel is still indeed less than 100%.
3. The Travelers used to always come the week after the U.S. Open and never did we see anybody that fought tooth and nail and clawed their way into contention, near victory, at The U.S. Open - ever come back and do it again the following week at The Travelers. I feel the same mentality holds true here, following a Major Championship, in which Koepka really battled and spent a lot of energy.. I don't think that holds up this week, again at one of the lower priority events on anybody's schedule - except Bubba's.
