General manager Sandy Alderson is cautioning Mets' fans not to expect super prospect starting pitcher Zack Wheeler to be the savior of the franchise...
Well DubV says to hell with caution...
Get excited folks. Zack Wheeler is making his major league debut Tuesday night in Atlanta in the second game of a doubleheader. Wheeler was the Giants first round pick in 2009 (6th overall) who they traded to the Mets for Carlos Beltran. Wheeler has been compared to Stephen Strasburg and was rated the number 1 overall pitching prospect in the minor leagues (yes he was even rated higher than Matt Harvey). Mets' ownership, which has been pinching pennies ever since the Bernie Madoff scandal has refused to promote Wheeler until the Super 2 deadline so as to save more money on his contract in the future by delaying his service time. He completely dominated the minors last year but hasn't been quite the same this year in Triple A. But have no fear. The reason for this is twofold. One- The Mets in another money saving move, moved their Triple A team to Las Vegas. They are the joke of baseball for doing this as the conditions there are so unfriendly to pitchers it is laughable. The dry air makes it almost impossible to grip the ball and fly balls fly out of the stadium at a higher rate than Coors Field. Two- he is bored. He should have been promoted a while ago so has most likely lost his focus, (the same thing happened to Matt Harvey in Triple A).
Tuesday night will be Christmas Morning for Mets fans. I have no clue what the books will bring this line out at and I don't care. There is value on the Mets up to -500. Paul Maholm is starting for the Braves so chances are we can get the Mets at plus money. Here is some video of Wheels in action..(he regularly hits 98+ with his fastball and has nasty breaking stuff)
OFFICIAL RECOMMENDATION: METS (WHEELER) -500 OR BETTER vs BRAVES (MAHOLM)
UPDATE
We have a price and it's looking good! Mets +164
