Joe Sheehan is a writer for Sports Illustrated and he joins the show every Tuesday to talk all thinks baseball.
A-Rod hasn't made the All-Star game and was t the fact that he is just a DH or because of his off the field stuff? Joe feels it was mainly due to his off the field instances, but also states that just being a DH din't help his cause either.
Kershaw is one that is waiting to see if he is on the roster. His wins above replacement are not that great, but Joe feels that he will be just fine in the 2nd half of the year. His advanced Metrics really say that he will have a strong second half.
Andy want to look at the 2nd half of the season, particularly with the Astros. Should they go out and get a productive player or someone that may be an influence in the club house for this young team? Joe feels that just wasting a roster spot on a player that is just a round for support and influence would not be wise. They need a mid-rotation starter and/or someone that can produce like Springer, who is out.
Who might be sellers at the deadline? Andy feels that most of the sellers will be in the NL. Joe agrees and also states that he doesn't feel that any team in the AL should become sellers. They all seem to have a chance at a playoff spot. In the NL you have the Rockies, Brewers, Reds, Phils and Marlins that should be selling. The Reds may have the most to sell and they have to start a rebuild. The deadline may be the time to do it.
What has been the spark for the Halos of late? Maybe a combination of Aybar coming back and the GM being shown the door. Still Joe feels that in the end maybe its time for Mike Scioscia to depart as he has just been there too long, with little to show for it.
