I took Notre Dame in CFB to win the National Championship at 60-1. The last two Seasons that Brian Kelly has had a decent QB, he is 24-0 in regular Season games, which is 2009 at Cincy and 2012 at ND.
This year, Brian Kelly has by far his best QB tandem since he's been coaching. Everett Golson is returning after a one-year academic suspension, during which he was coached by QB guru George Whitfield, and he is bigger, stronger and more confident than his red-shirt freshman season when he led the team to a 12-0 record and berth in the NC game against Bama. And he is surrounded by much better talent at RB and WR.
Golson is a winner. He won two HS state championships in South Carolina, including besting Jadeveon Clowney in the championship game his senior year. As good as Golson is, his back-up, Malik Zaire, may be better. Kelly has had good success with QB tandems in the past, and the competition should make both of them better. They are both excellent runners and passers, and the coaches can turn them loose without fear of injury, given the luxury of having two. I expect Notre Dame's offense to be one of the strongest in the country.
In its first 6 games, ND has no true road games, playing Syracuse and Purdue on neutral fields. ND should beat both Michigan and Stanford at home during that stretch, as it did in 2012. In 2012, both those teams were over-matched in their games at ND, and ND's team should be stronger this year than in 2012. Stanford is losing important players and Michigan is a clear notch below the Irish.
Notre Dame should be able to start the Season 6-0, before they head to Tallahassee to face Fl. St., which will likely by the No. 1 ranked team for that game. Notre Dame has a long history of winning this type of game, but of course it is possible that they'll lose it. With 60-1 odds, however, you can bet FSU to win the game as a hedge. An 11-1 ND team that loses only to the No. 1 Team on the road can still be selected for the 4 team playoff, and if ND beats FSU, they should be a near lock to make the playoffs, even if they were to stumble in one game after such a victory.
If ND makes the playoffs and you are holding a 60-1 ticket, you should be able to make money.
