Happy Labor Day!
Monday Bases! - 15-6 Free Play Run
The Nationals travel to Los Angeles to face the Dodgers for a 3 game set in what could be a potential NLCS match up later this year.
The Dodgers managed to avoid a sweep at the hands of the Padres in San Diego on Sunday. Los Angeles got runners on base, they just struggled to convert those into runs on the scoreboard in the Padres series. They have an OBP of .350 over their last 7 games whilst averaging .278 in that span.
Roberto Hernandez gets the nod for the Dodgers tonight and has been solid in four starts since being traded from Philly. He is 2-1 with a 3.52 ERA and 1.21 WHIP over those four starts and has faced the Nationals twice this season, allowing just 1 unearned run in 15 1/3 IP. Hernandez has allowed 3 ER or fewer in eight straight trips to the mound and opponents are hitting just .229 against the righty since the All Star Break.
The Nats hand the baseball to lefty Gio Gonzalez who hasn’t won a decision for 9 straight starts, Washington are 3-6 in those 9 games. Gonzalez is 3-6 with a 3.63 ERA in 11 road starts this year and has struggled with his command since the All Star Break. He has pitched to a 1.48 WHIP in 8 starts since the mid summer classic and opponents hold a .278 BAA against him over those 8 outings.
I like the value on the home team in this match up, LA have faired pretty well against lefty’s in 2014, going 23-11 in 34 games. The Dodger offense has come to life over the past few weeks and I like them to get runners over the plate tonight.
