In today's Big Conversation, Sports Illustrated's Joe Sheehan joins Scott and Dave to talk MLB trades.
John Lester and John Gomes are headed out west to the Oakland A's. In return, Boston gets Yeonis Cespedes. The move on the A's part is showing that they are in it to win it this year. Joe feels that Lester now becomes their top starter and getting him should help them hold off the Angels down the stretch. Lester, Samardzija, Gray and Kazmir is a dynamite starting rotation.
Dave feels that Cespedes to the Red Sox should increase his power numbers, especially at Fenway. Dave also feels that the Sox were not the Favortes to sign Lester in the offseason, he feels hat the Cubs will go after him hard. The Red Sox have allot of nice young arms, so getting Cespedes and Craig today should help their offense, which is in dire need of a shot in the arm.
John Lackey is going to St Louis and the Cardinals also signed John Masterson, who can dominate righties. Should the cards offense have gone after a bat or two, considering how bad their offense is. Joe feels their offense will be better without Craig there, so the Lackey deal may have been more about getting Craig off the roster.
The Pirates need an offensive upgrade at the first base position, from a hitters standpoint. Joe isn't so sure as he likes the Gaby Sanchez, Ike Davis platoon. Joe feels that the Pirates need more help in the outfield and pitching as well. The big positive for the Pirates right now is that Francisco Liriano is hot and could be a big key for them down the stretch. They also will be getting Cole back and won't have to monitor his innings the rest of the year.
Andrew Miller would be a good fit for the Tigers maybe, but they may not be able to afford him.
Jorge De La Rosa is not going to be a playoff starter for most teams and teams may not wanna give up much to get that type of pitcher.
The Dodgers have three big Prospects in the Minors that every one seems to want, but the Dodgers have stated that they are not looking to trade these three guys.
The Phiilies may have been asking for all 3 Dodgers prospects for Cole Hamels. Amaro is crazy and the Phils may need to make a change at the GM spot. The Phillies need to start making trades that will have them winning in 2018 and get off the Winning now mindset.
Phillies may be the most incompetent organization in baseball.
