The Gators better be ready for Jevan Snead and Ole Miss Saturday.
As we found out on Thursday night when Oregon State upset a seemingly invincible USC squad, we are into the part of the college football season where playing underdogs can really pay off. Looking over the card this week, I see quite a few dogs that pack a mean bite and could be solid plays on Saturday.
Marshall +15West Virginia is a team in disarray right now. They have no identity on offense. One week they are a passing team, while the next they use the same three running plays over and over again. And don't even get me started on Bill Stewart. That hire is going to set the Mountaineers program back 10 years. Marshall is playing well and this is its Super Bowl. It doesn't get talked about much but Marshall despises West Virginia and they think this is the year they can seriously compete with them The Herd take this game very seriously, while West Virginia is lost and trying to figure out how they went from a National Title contender to a Big East also-ran in just three weeks.
Ole Miss +23I really like this spot for Ole Miss. They lost to Vandy last week but being a touchdown favorite isn't a great situation for the Rebels. Now they travel to The Swamp with no expectations. Florida is coming off an emotional win over Tennessee and this will be the best offense the Gators have faced all year. I know their defense has been playing well but I think the Gators will get a big test from Jevan Snead and the Ole Miss offense on Saturday. Plus, Houston Nutt is one of the best coaches in the country when it comes to getting his team prepared as a big underdog. This one could end up being a lot closer than anticipated.
Minnesota +20Public is hitting the Bucks hard with news that Beanie Wells will return for this game. Here is my problem with Ohio State: I think they stink. I believe most of us vastly overrated this team coming into the season. Heck, they looked like a high school squad against USC and I'm sorry, the Trojans shouldn't be 35 points better than OSU on any day. Minnesota is improved and I'm playing the "I'll believe it when I see it" card with the Buckeyes for now.
NC State +9.5I'm still looking hard at this one. You know with a good coach like Tom O'Brien at the helm, it's only a matter of time before this program turns the corner. I think last week may have been that moment when the Wolfpack upset East Carolina. Russell Wilson showed a lot of playmaking ability at the quarterback position and NC State has a strong duo at running back. Meanwhile, the Bulls are injured at running back and Matt Grothe has been really their only option on the ground thus far. I think a possible upset could be in the making here.
Michigan +6This game just scares the hell out of me. We all know Michigan stinks but if they are going to play one really good game all year, this could be it. The Wolverines are coming off a bye and are taking on a Wisconsin squad that can get caught up in those 13-10 kind of games. I'm not taking the Wolverines personally because I won't put any money on a team that gets beat by Notre Dame but it won't surprise if Michigan pulls the upset at home on Saturday.
Those are five underdogs I find intriguing. Which dogs do you think will bark the loudest this weekend?
WOW...Both my takes we on...Bama and Ol Miss here...Michigan scared the hell out of me and Wisconsin BLEW that game in the 4th! Unfortunatly I took some bad bets on Saturday....laid 3 with Washington....took Purdue, had a big win on Northwestern as my Big 10 Schocker...SATURDAY PROVED NO ON IS SAFE IN COLLEGE FOOTBALL.....
BAMA is the best dog on the board. I posted it in the forum and on my site here....ALSO some good calls here ...Think Ol MIss has an excellent chance, thwey have had some bad luck but played well over their heads in most their games, Houston Nutt brings out the best in his players, worth the take..
That Minnesota line started at +18 or so... might have been less, and now it's at +20. I thought it was a lot of points to lay for a team that was beaten badly by USC, then followed it up with a nail biter against Troy State. Plus the Ohio University game in which they were trailing. Minnesota has been able to score points, they were able to do that last year, they just couldn't stop anybody. You have to wonder if the Gophers might be able to keep it within 20 points. That's 3 unanswered TDs.
I got burned going against NC State and Florida last week, so I'm not touching their games this week.
I made a small play on MN +20, another play in a 10 point teaser, so I'm getting MN +30, and yet another teaser with Ohio State -10. The Gophers have about a 3% chance of winning the game outright, but if they can just lose by between 10 and 30 points, I should be able to make some bank with these plays.
I like Illinois to cover against Penn St. and Indiana to get the cover against Micigan St. in a perfect flat spot. I
Russell Wilson OUT for NC State. I do like Ole Miss though.
Some dogs I like:
My play of the day is OK St. -17. OK St won't think about looking past Troy and Robinson will be able to move the ball at will against a Troy secondary that hasn't been tested yet. Troy will be looking ahead to the SBC and OK St. is in a big revenge spot here. Everything points to OK St. big.
Thanks for posting your plays.
No Matty I just don't see that as being an interesting "underdog" at this point. I mean, Bama is an underdog in the game but a lot of people are viewing that as a pretty even matchup. I stand by the 24-20 Alabama win. Moneyline it.
Funny, but I don't see that pick against the Dawgs here - did you have a change of heart or are just too many people on the Tide?
Thanks Spartan. I think in today's CFB it's difficult to lay a lot of points in most cases. There just isn't a big separation talent-wise between most teams. Except for Ohio State, who apparently has no talent anymore.
Very good looking card brother, good luck and kick some serious ass!
