Residing here in the middle of Chiefs country the mood this morning was about what I expected. I personally felt it would be a close game but I admit I did think the Chiefs would prevail. I have not listened to the Kansas City sports talk radio any since the game but I expect they are freaking out, as usual. I frankly have to limit the time I spend listening to the local talking heads on KC sports talk radio. They overreact to wins and overreact equally if not more so when they lose a game. Just a never ending roller coaster. I suppose it is like that in most cities. Expectations are tough some times. I have always felt the Chiefs are a good, solid football team and likely a playoff club. I just did not share the opinion of many around these parts that they are a super bowl team. That right is going to go through New England and the Chiefs simply are not there yet. But, credit where due. The Titans came into a hostile environment and left with the outright. It was pretty cold but the wind was not so bad and that always helps. Should be a great game this christmas day with Denver coming to town. This is a true rivalry between two clubs that honestly don't care for one another. Denver is off a tough loss at home against the Patriots. Evidently some ruckus broke out in the Denver locker room and that can be expected. The defense played well enough to win but the offense sputtered. Those kind of things happen but its a shame the word got out. Friction can occur within units but it is usually confined to the locker room walls. Teams are family and family squabbles usually are kept within family. I will say it did not shock me to see Talib in the middle of it. Talented football player, no question. But also a dirty player and a big mouth to go with it. He has been a jerk since his college days at Kansas. I admit I think it would have been funny if one of the O lineman had stepped on him like a bug.
Missouri dropped another game at home saturday and people are just kind of shaking their heads. Bad team and the prospects are bleak. Sad because it did not used to be that way around here. The one positive thing is they lost to Jay Spoonhour's club. Jay has some local ties. I knew his dad Charlie. Charlie used to coach the Jr College Greyhounds in my home town of Moberly. There will never be another Charlie Spoonhour. I recall one time we were at a game out of town and having a beer at a joint afterwards. Forum member Richard Mayfied was actually one of our group that night. Charlie was in the same bar and came by our table to visit for awhile He mentioned he was off to recruit a good looking young player he thought had a good future. I asked Charlie the kids name, he replied Wayman Tisdale. Well, I think Charlie nailed that one. Anyway, his son Jay coaches Eastern Illininois and they took out the Tigers saturday in Mizzou arena. Jay is a sharp young coach with a bright future. He learned his trade from a good one.
Three of my buddies are excited about going to florida next month and the Cardinals fantasy camp. For one of the guys this will be his third year in a row. Two years in a row for the others. The stories they bring back are priceless. They hear some good stories from former players and they are outstanding. Not actually stories I can repeat here, lol.
That was about the size of it this morning. Cold and gross here. Florida and playing baseball has plenty of appeal to yours truly right now. I think next year I might join them.
Hope everyone has a great week. If anyone is traveling for the holidays stay safe.
