I'm going off center here. Usually I post some thoughts regarding past moments in sports history from the date at hand. Not today. I have taken a couple of days before posting this because I wanted to truly reflect on the situation and not just toss up a knee jerk reaction. Those who know me realize I am a Packers fan when it comes to the NFL. Shareholder, season ticket holder at Lambeau field. With that being said, I can say the Chiefs are my second favorite team and I do follow them closely. Have for many years. So what is my deal with the Chiefs? I think they screwed up royally. On december 21, 2012 Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher shot and murdered his baby's mother and then drove himself to Arrowhead where he shot himself in front of the head coach and GM. Obviously it sent shock waves through the community. Just a senseless and horrific act. We all remember it as fans. Now, I realize s_it happens. It's life. There are things that just occur. We try and make sense out of things that can never truly be sorted out. Nobody knows what truly goes through other's minds. Always been senseless acts of violence and there always will be. We all know deep down also that a lot of bad seeds get planted in the professional sports world because they are gifted with ability. Ability that make teams pay lip service to the whole character issue but in reality turn the other cheek if they feel the kid can help them win. Winning is the bottom line. I am not naive. It is winning that sells tickets, and make those turnstiles work. In an ideal world we would like a team of all american kids who we could see our daughters date. That world is fantasy island stuff. If the fans really knew what complete a-holes many guys were in reality on their favorite teams it would burst some bubbles. I've talked with too many people on the inside. Pick your sport, football, baseball or basketball, or hockey. There are a ton of spoiled, arrogant pricks out there. And then there are the guys walking the high wire between sanity and nutty town. Those who are about to go on full tilt at any moment. Here is my point and personal opinion. The Chiefs, once again, in my own opinion only, showed poor judgement in taking Tyreek Hill in the draft. The wounds in the community and franchise are too fresh too bring on a guy who has pleaded guilty to punching and choking his pregnant girlfriend. In a word I think the move was stupid. Now, I do believe in second chances. I listened to the kid and he apologized to the school, his team and felt ashamed. He left out one thing, the victim. What he was most concerned with was the possibility of not having the chance for those fat checks. Anyway, this whole thing has opened a can of worms in Kansas City. After consideration I feel the kid probably deserves a chance but man oh man, in Kansas City this soon after the Belcher tragedy just seems too soon. If this kid does something ignorant with his latest squeeze the fall out will be unreal. I know different folks will have different outlooks on this and that's cool. This is just my own.
Okay, a free winner. Tonight I suggest playing the over in the game between the Mariners and the A's. On the business side I have a featured release loaded and ready for the NBA tonight. Cashed again last night with the Cavaliers taking care of business against the Hawks. Best of luck guys and enjoy the games.
