It was 110 in Las Vegas this past weekend, and I spent the vast majority of it gambling. Here are the highs and lows.
WSOP Seniors Event :
I played in this $1,000 buy in, as I identified it as one of the weakest fields that would be available. I also like that I could late entry (with a full starting stack of course) and I showed up at the Friday night dinner break after every else had been playing 6 hours. In theory, I would be fresh and ready to go, while they would be running on fumes all tournament. In practice, I was also tired from betting sports all day, and they all had $20,000 in chips, while I had $5,000 only, and the blinds were already at $150/$300 and rising. I stole pots and hung in there, chipping up slowly through the night, and finsihing with $20,000 in chips...but by then everyone else had $40,000.
Saturday was a similar story. I had to shut it down and tank for awhile to get past the money bubble. Then it was time to ram and jam, and steal pots. I maxed out at $40,000 in chips but the blinds were at 1,200/2,400 and everyone else still had double my stack. I bluffed once too often and I was out in 257th place out of 4,000, and picked up $2,450 for my time.
ROADTRIP TO ALLIANTE, back to Sports.
I jumped in my car and headed on I-15 N to get to Alliante before the EDC Concert goers clogged all traffic up by the Speedway North of town. I bet the Vikings +3.5 MNF @ San Francisco (this line will close pk!) and 468 the JETS -2.5 vs. the Browns.
NOTE! We will be putting up NFL Previews on EACH team, starting this week Pregame.TV Don't miss these, as we will have recommendations for bets on each and every team!
I also signed up for the Alliante Mobile App that is now active. For lower limits, the Apps around town at Coast, CGT, William Hill, South Point, and now Alliante and soon for Westgate certainly make it a lot easier on bettors!
I watched a little of the golf at Alliante. Am I the ONLY one that thinks this is the ugliest course possible? Call me a square, I want to see a good looking course. It's summer in Washington, the water looks great, they pan back from the blimp and there is green everywhere, with Ranier in the background.......and there is ONE barren track of ugly brown grass......and THAT is where they are playing the US open? It reminds me of the Rio Secco in July when the grass in the rough goes dormant brown, and the course beauty goes from 8 down to a 3. Further I love to see lots of water on a Golf Course......I thought the course was a D for viewing. (only the views AWAY from the course avoided the F). I had someone bet some golf for me, he emailed me that I won.........I never had any interest/any time to check a score.
A RARE SUNDAY (mostly) OFF
Father's Day on Sunday and I jammed in some MLB bets, and put in my best bet on the WNBA late game. Spent some time with my son, and with my father. The worst part of Las Vegas is the summer heat, where you would love to spend the day outside, but at 110 even at a park with water features, it is just too hot.
WNBA PAYDAY
Always nice to win the best bet, as the Phoenix Mercury pulled away from an AWFUL Sea team (we liked Sea before the season started........but their new additions YTD have been a bust.........and Sue Bird is a year older).
What HAS been a shock in the WNBA is that two of the teams forecasted to be bottom feeders are leading their divisions. Tulsa at 6-1 IS the real deal. Their win @Minnesota puts them in 'contender' category. Conn at 6-1 has simply gotten a great draw YTD.......look for them to fade.
MLB Monday
I am groggy, and likely the Dodgers are as well........I don't want to fade Kershaw but once he exits the game, I think I bet on the Cubs live may well be a solid investment......Wada isn't Kershaw, but the Cubs are a 'buy" team right now.......those with Cubs OVER 83 win tickets and futures actually are excited......this organization HAS turned the corner and is gettign ready to contend!
