Been awhile and I made a pledge to myself to get this done today. I have been busy as hell guys, plain and simple. Frankly been watching my 4 year old grandson a lot and he keeps my occupied. Getting used to handicapping games with cartoons blaring in the background. One of todays items is pretty obscure but as is often the case sparks some neat memories. It was on this date in 1977 that the Super Bowl was on the cover of TV guide. I will never, ever forget that game. The Denver Broncos had come out of nowhere that season under head coach Red Miller to make it to the big show behind veteran QB Craig Morton. And then to top it off squared off against Morton's ex team the Cowboys in the Super Bowl. The game was held in New Orleans and it was one of those weeks prior to the game where nothing seemed to go right for Denver. Their hotel had no hot water, their practice field at Tulane had just endured a bowl game and was shot to hell. Evidently the food at the hotel was so bad the team flew down the Denver BBQ king Daddy Bruce to feed the club. The whole thing was a cluster ____ right up to kick off. And of course to top it off they had a bad day and Dallas whipped them 27-10. When I look at the Super Bowl now and what a monster it has evolved into I cannot help but recall the first one. Yes, I admit, I have seen every single one. The Packers knocked off the Chiefs and the stadium was not even full. The game was actually carried on two networks, both CBS and NBC. And the commericials were just boring normal commercials.
Okay, a free winner. Tonight I suggest a small play on LSU as they travel to take on the Missouri Tigers just down the road from where I am sitting, at Mizzou Arena. The Tigers are making progress under Kim Anderson and are a good group of kids. Problem is they are just short on depth and, well, overall talent. This is the weakest roster I can recall here at Mizzou. And I've been around here a bit. Conference home opener and I expect there to be several dozen people in the stands but I say LSU puts in a workmanlike effort and clears the short number.
On the business side I have a couple of Triple Stars loaded and ready to roll. Last week in the NFL playoffs my Triple was on Detroit and we all saw what happened. Their ass's must still be sore. But, they did cover the number for us. I've now cashed in on 17 of the last 19 NFL Triples. As one poster said, that's not 100%. No, it is not. I can always do better and I assure you I am trying. I also have a Triple in the title game monday night. I have been asked about why I have had no Triples in the NBA yet and only two in college. Just waiting guys, they will come. I take my time with the hoops.
One final note. Pregames offer on the NFL Playoff all access through the Super Bowl is still available but they will be pulling it soon. I mentioned my Triple Star mark in the playoffs. I might add I have also cashed in on my last eight Super Bowl selections. Worth a mention.
Thanks as always and best of luck with your action tonight guys. Enjoy the games.
