As I scanned today's moments there was one that stood out. And it is a terribly sad one. I remember it well. It was on this date back in 1970 that the plane carrying the Marshall University football team back from a home game crashed and killed everyone aboard. It sent shock waves around the nation. I am sure many of you saw the movie that came out a few years back, We are Marshall. I thought it told the story well. I personally lost two teammates in the middle of the season while in high school. One was a kid named Jeff Davis, he was only a sophmore and just up and died one morning for no reason. Just died. An autopsy could not even provide an answer. His mom called him to breakfast and he said he would be down in a moment. A few minutes later she called up the stairs that it was getting cold, she went upstairs and there was Jeff, dressed for school and lying on his bed, dead as a door nail. Just stunning. Guy never smoked or drank, just a nice and clean living guy. Lost another named David Bolles in a hunting accident. It's just so surreal when death and sports collide. Oh well, I am rambling some. That Marshall anniversary just brought back some sad memories. I am sure some of you have had similar things with past teammates.
Okay, back to the present. Had a winner with the last free selection on the Jazz against the Hawks a couple nights ago. Tonight I am turning to college hoops and suggesting a small wager on the Thunderbirds of Southern Utah plus the 27.5 points against Kansas State. Webers Wildcats win the game but don't clear this number.
On the business side I lost a double star on the Buffalo Bills plus the points last night. I fully expected the Bills to cover and it looked good actually most the game. They just got some bad calls and seemed to lose some composure. They could have won that game but still don't know how to close a deal. Kyle Orton is not a guy you want under center to mount a significant comeback. I really expected a close, hard fought three point type game. In the end I was wrong. I do have a pair of Triples in play this weekend. One for college on saturday and another in the NFL sunday.
It has also come to our attention that today is the last day for the college basketball discounted season packages. I did the math and based on last years volume of games I released it amounted to around a buck seventy per release. Last season I ended up with a 152-109 mark, 58% winners over the course of 261 games released. My clients wound up to the good side 48.6 units. My strengths are the Big 12, SEC, Missouri Valley and the Pac 12. Considering this package covers every single release through the final four it's a legitimate deal. I will just add this. As in every sport, when it is opening there will be services touting some amazing numbers. Please be leery of any claims that seem to be too good to be true. They likely are. Okay, just a ton of work to do. Back at it. Thanks and best of luck this weekend. Enjoy the games!
