The Big Ten's Wisconsin Badgers are in the Valley of the Sun today to face Todd Graham's Arizona State Sun Devils. Tonight's meeting between the Badgers and Sun Devils is scheduled to kickoff at 10:30pm ET on ESPN. The Gary Andersen era at Wisconsin is off to a great start, but some would contend it has yet to get underway. The Badgers squared off against a hapless Massachusetts squad in their opener and they cruised to a 45-0 victory after scoring four second half touchdowns.
Last week's game looked much the same with Wisconsin roughing up FCS school Tennessee Tech 48-0. The Badgers racked up 606 yards to the Golden Eagles 113 and they averaged 7.6 yards per carry on 51 rush attempts.
Arizona State, which has just one game under its belt, played against a similar level of competition in its season opener. The Sun Devils squared off against the mighty Hornets of Sacramento State and rolled to a 55-0 win.
Highly touted quarterback Taylor Kelly led ASU's offensive assault, completing 23-of-31 passes for 300 yards and five touchdowns.
This is a difficult spot for Wisconsin, taking on a Sun Devils team that is now 5-1 against the spread as a home favorite under Todd Graham, but from a talent and coaching standpoint, these teams are on equal footing.
Andersen did an exceptional job at Utah State before taking over at Wisconsin, and he inherited 14 starters and 52 lettermen from a team that earned a Rose Bowl appearance. The Badgers lost five regular season games by three points (three of those came in overtime) and they fell 14-20 to Stanford in the Rose Bowl, which marked their biggest setback of the season.
The Sun Devils are a quality team and maybe the front runner to win the Pac-12 South, but they will have their hands full with the Badgers this evening.
