West Virginia and Oklahoma open conference play tonight as they square off a Oklahoma Memorial Stadium in Norman. Kickoff in this evening's Big 12 clash between the Mountaineers and Sooners is set for 7:00pm ET; the game will be broadcast live on FOX. College Football Point Spreads Week 2 are favoring the hosting Sooners at -21.5 against the spread and -1400 on the money line ($1400 wins $100). The Over/Under in tonight's rivalry tilt is set at 54.5 points.
West Virginia had a lot of turnover in the off-season, losing 11 starters from last year's team, including its most dynamic offensive playmakers in Geno Smith, Tavon Austin, and Stedman Bailey.
That showed in last week's season opener as the Mountaineers, playing as a -33 home favorite, defeated FCS school William & Mary 24-17.
Granted, West Virginia probably played things a little closer to the vest, looking to preserve a few things for Oklahoma and the rest of its conference brethren, but that score is still somewhat ominous.
Oklahoma took the fourth quarter off in its season opener, but still manage to thrash a capable Louisiana-Monroe squad 34-0 in Norman. The Sooners posted 25 first downs and 429 total yards while the Warhawks floundered their way to nine first downs and 166 yards.
Trevor Knight, OU's new red-shirt freshman quarterback, was not especially impressive throwing the ball as he completed only 11 of his 28 pass attempts for 86 yards; however, he did throw three touchdowns passes and he rushed for a team high 103 yards on 13 carries.
When these two teams met last year they combined for 1440 yards, 62 first downs, and 99 points. The Sooners prevailed 50-49 thanks to six touchdown passes from Landry Jones.
While Jones is no longer with Oklahoma, the Sooners are in a far better position to post the better offensive numbers in tonight's game. The West Virginia offense, with only three starters and 10 lettermen back, is still a work in progress.
College Football Point Spreads Week 2 Betting Trend: The Sooners are 7-1 straight up and 6-2 against the spread in their last eight games as a home favorite with a spread between 21 and 24.5 points.
West Virginia vs Oklahoma College Football Point Spreads Week 2:
West Virginia Mountaineers +21.5 (-110), Over 54.5 (-110), +925 (Moneyline)
Oklahoma Sooners -21.5 (-110), Under 54.5 (-110), -1400 (Moneyline)
