One's a pretender and one's a contender in the NFL matchup on Sunday between the Washington Redskins and the Philadelphia Eagles. The game preview is listed below. Sunday's game is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start time and it will be televised live on FOX. Currently the odds for the game have the Redskins favored by a touchdown.
Not many thought that the Redskins would be in this position. Yet, under Mike Shanahan Washington has surprised the entire league. It certainly helps that rookie phenom QB Robert Griffin III is a freak. And don't expect him not to play in this one. We know that he's going to get snaps in this game, but expect to see Kirk Cousins under center as well. He was impressive in the final quarter two weeks ago, leading the Skins to a victory while Griffin was hurt. Griffin didn't play last week when Cousins led his team to a win over Cleveland. That definitely has to have Redskin fans thanking they took two quarterbacks in last year's draft.
The Philadelphia Eagles are just a mess. There are rumors they're going to fire their head coach, cut a bunch of guys and just try to start over beginning after their final two games are done. We'll see if that happens but it's hard to believe that Andy Reid would get let go after all of his success in Philly. The Eagles are just 1-9 overall in their last 10 games and have gone a dismal 3-7 against the number in those games.
LeSean McCoy is arguably the best thread the Eagles have and he's coming back from a concussion and is expected to play in this one. It hasn't been reported if he will see limited snaps or not, so we are expecting him to play just as much as he normally would.
The Skins have won five straight games. Philadelphia has had problems, no doubt, but having a -22 ratio on turnovers has certainly helped them get to where they are right now. They lead the NFC in turnovers this season.
Another major problem has been the offensive line. The Eagles have been shuffling guys around all season due to injuries, problems and guys not playing well. Sunday's game will be the ninth different combination they've put on the field.
In Week 11, Washington rolled to a 31-6 win at home. Griffin threw for 4 TDs in that game.
Nick Foles is scheduled to get the start for Philly but don't be surprised if Michael Vick gets on the field as well.
The Eagles don't really have anything to play for, other than being a spoiler. Washington hasn't been able to win back to back road games yet this season. We don't think the Eagles are going to win the game outright, but we do expect them to keep it close. It's hard to take a backup rookie quarterback laying points on the road in a divisional game against a team that wants to knock you out of the playoffs.
