Wake Forest Demon Deacons at Boston College Eagles Odds, Free Pick

Friday night college football and we will see the Wake Forest Demon Deacons travel to Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts to take on the Boston College Eagles. The start time is 8:00 pm (Eastern) and the game will be televised on ESPN2. Current Odds have Boston College listed as 3 point favorites, while the total sits at 48.5.

Analysis: Jim Grobe is in his 13th season as the head coach at Wake Forest and the pressure in on him to atone for last year's disappointing finish, which saw them miss out on a bowl game for the 3 time in their last 4 years. The Demon Deacons could be a surprise team this year, as Jim Grobe is an excellent coach and he brings back 15 starters from last years squad. Wake Forest did start the year with a 31-7 win over FCS for Presbyterian in a game that wasn't really that close as the Deacons outgained them by 257 yards, while holding Presbyterian to just 151 total yards, including just 49 through the air, while the Blue Horse got just 2 firstdowns the entire game.

The Eagles had to come from behind to take out Villanova last week, scoring 17 unanswered points to get the win 24-14. The Win was Steve Adazio's first as head man of the Eagles. Senior wideout Alex Amidon grabbed 13 balls for 146 yards and a touchdown against Villanova, while senior Chase Retting completed 23-of-30 passes for 285 yards and two scores. Redshirt freshman fullback Bobby Wolford finished with six catches for 84 yards and a TD, while Andre Williams powered the ground game with 114 yards on 23 carries. This looks like an offense that could be improved this year, but they still are more of a running team. The Eagles defense allowed 355 yards in the game, but also notched three interceptions and those takeaways were a key difference in an otherwise tightly-contested ball game. BC leads the all-time series, 10-8-2, but Wake has won the last 2 played.

Pick:  I'm going to look to the Under in this one. Neither offense will set the world on fire this year, which should really keep the scoring down in this one. Tanner Price threw for just 219 yards last week on 14 of 25 passing and that is not very good numbers vs a low tier FCS opponent. The Eagles on defense had a bit of a slip the last 2 years, but they have 10 starters back this year and will be a solid group. Villanova did put up 355 yards on them in their opener, but just 14 points, so BC tightened when they needed to. The Deacon defense was solid in their opener and should be able to shut down a BC team that will lack offensive punch this year. Neither QB is all that good and both teams will end up relying more on the run than the pass this year, which will eat clock. I look for a tough defensive battle in Chestnut hill tonight.
