The Hokies are a 1-1 favorite to win the ACC’s Coastal Division and they are listed at 3-1 odds ( a second pick to Florida State) to win the ACC Conference Championship. Virginia Tech, while not a favorite, is at least viewed as potential contender for the national title as well, drawing 33-1 odds to win the BCS National Championship.
Virginia Tech’s 2011 season ended with a 20-23 overtime loss to Michigan in the Sugar Bowl, but despite that setback the team managed to record its third 11 win season in the past five years. The Hokies did so by thumping in-state rival Virginia 38-0 in the regular season finale.
Reaching 11 wins this year could be problematic for Beamer’s bunch with just 12 starters returning to Blacksburg. Virginia Tech faces tough road games against North Carolina, Clemson, and Miami, and the home slate is no cake walk either with Georgia Tech and Florida State both visiting Blacksburg. At least the Hokies can take some solace in the fact that they are favored in the only two Tech games the odds makers have lined (at Miami -6.5, Florida State -1).
