Virginia Tech 2012 College Football Predictions and 2013 BCS Odds

Frank Beamer’s Hokies, who have won the ACC Coastal Division four of the last five years, are, once again, expected to contend for the conference title in 2012. The latest 2012 College Football Predictions at 5Dimes.eu have Virginia Tech listed as a -175 favorite ($175 to win $100) to repeat as division champion and +300 odds ($100 to win $300) to its fourth ACC crown. The Hokies are a +2800 play to win the national championship in the latest 2013 BCS Odds and they are favored at -139 odds to record Over 9 wins.

It would not be correct to say Virginia Tech underachieved last season; however, it did not take full advantage of what many viewed as a soft schedule. Several pundits believed the Hokies could contend for a spot in the BCS National Championship game, but an unexpected regular season loss to Clemson and a 38-10 blowout suffered at the hands of the Tigers in the ACC title game landed Beamer’s crew in the Sugar Bowl opposite Michigan.

While the Hokies have done enough during Beamer’s tenure to warrant lofty expectations on a year in, year out basis, it would appear they are somewhat tempered this season. Yes, the Hokies are considered a major player in the ACC, but some believe the Coastal Division could be a three way race between Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, and North Carolina.

Virginia Tech is not used to so much company, but the fact this year’s squad returns only 12 starters, including just three on the offensive side of the ball, has created more trepidation than usual. Still, it would not be wise to sleep on the Hokies; the team has plenty of talent, especially under center in junior quarterback Logan Thomas. Thomas threw for 3013 yards and 19 touchdowns last season, and he also rushed for 469 yards and 11 scores.
