Vicar's In Trouble led on a fast pace in a six-furlong maiden blowout Dec. 14 and led on a moderate pace in a nine-furlong, Grade 2 blowout March 29 making him a pretty special horse. He runs the far turn extremely well and might have the best midrace quarter-mile of any horse in the Derby. Still this is a horse that never hat to gut out a victory and that may play against him here in the derby vs some top-notch horses. Yes, he successfully stretched his speed to nine furlongs in the Louisiana Derby, but that pace was far softer than what he’ll face in the Kentucky Derby.
Vicar's In Trouble is sired by Into Mischief, who will be represented by his third Kentucky Derby starter in two crops to race. Last year, Santa Anita Derby victor Goldencents and Jerome (Grade 2) and Gotham (Grade 3) stakes winner Vyjack ran unplaced in the Louisville classic. On the dam's side Vibrant was a useful racemare who never won past seven furlongs.
Riding Vicar's in Trouble will be Rosie Naparavik, who began riding at the age of 2 and the only female Jockey in the 2014 Kentucky Derby field, plus she is also the only woman to win the Louisiana Derby twice. Rosie has been racing professionally since 2005 and has 1500 career wins so far. Last year she was in 1228 races and finished 3rd or better in more than half of those races.
The Stamina is there for Vicar's In Trouble and he has a solid Jockey riding him. Do not be surprised at all is this horse finishes at least 3rd in the Kentucky Derby.
