The BYU Cougars and Utah Utes will open the college football season on Thursday night. The game is scheduled for a 10:15 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on ESPN. The college football odds have the Utes favored to pick up a victory in this rivalry matchup.

A rivalry game to kick off the season sounds like such a great idea. The Holy War, in its 100th overall game, has seen Utah win eight consecutive times. There’s talk that the Utes might be the best overall team in the Pac 12 as well, so going on the road and playing in a tough game like this to open the 2019 campaign seems fitting for Kyle Whittingham’s team.

This year’s Utes return seven starters on both sides of the football and Zack Moss returns for his senior season. Last year he ran for almost 1,100 yards and 11 scores while posting better than six yards per carry. He’s going to be a problem for the BYU defense that certainly wants to stop the run. 

BYU returns eight guys on the defensive side of the football and nine more on offense in Kalani Sitake’s fourth season. BYU is not going to be intimidated here and they are playing at home, where the Cougs have gone 11-1 in season openers and won five straight. They also have to have some revenge on their minds in this one as they blew a 27-7 second half lead last year to lose.
