USA Today Final Poll College Football Odds: Central Florida vs. Washington

Today’s 5Dimes USA Today Final Poll College Football Odds match-up features two less than prominent programs in Central Florida and Washington. Certainly Washington has a solid football pedigree, but the Huskies best record over the past 10 years was the 7-6 mark they produced last season. The view from Seattle is not much better this year as Washington is expected to finish behind Central Florida in the final Coaches’ poll. Although, that may be more of a statement about the Knights, who are listed as a -170 moneyline favorite ($170 to win $100) in their 5Dime’s pairing opposite the Huskies.

George O’Leary’s first season at UCF was a forgettable one as the team finished the year with a 0-11 record. O’Leary has since turned the program around, though, producing four winning seasons, including two double digit win campaigns in 2007 and 2010.

The Knights took a step back in 2011, falling to 5-7 after posting an 11-3 mark in 2010. Most, however, are expecting a bounce back season from O’Leary’s troops, who are favored to win Conference USA’s East Division (+115) as well as the Conference USA Championship (+250).

UCF, which returns 16 starters and 42 letter-men, has a challenging schedule with non-conference games against Ohio State and Missouri; however, with the exception of November 17th game at Tulsa, it will host its most difficult conference competition.

Washington Head Coach Steve Sarkisian has done a nice job steering the Huskies in the right direction as the program produced 11 total wins in the four years prior to his arrival. Sarkisian has guided Washington to back-to-back seven wins seasons as well as Holiday and Alamo Bowl appearances.

He has an opportunity to finish with more wins than losses again this year with 13 starters, including quarterback Keith Price (3,063 yards, 33 touchdowns), and 42 letter-men back in the fold. The Huskies schedule is anything but easy, though, as they face LSU and a host of quality PAC 12 foes in the likes of Stanford, Oregon, USC, Utah, and California.

It is easy to look at UCF’s schedule and forecast a four or fewer loss season, conversely, the same cannot be said for Washington. The Huskies will do well to reach sevens wins, making their prospects for a top 25 finish or a higher ranking than the Knights seem unrealistic.
