UNLV Rebels vs New Mexico Lobos Start Time, Odds

CFB on Saturday night and we will see the UNLV Rebels travel to University Stadium to take on the New Mexico Lobos. The start time is 8:00 pm (Eastern) and the game will be televised locally. Current Odds have UNLV listed as 2.5 point favorites, while the total sits at 54.

Analysis: UNLV takes it 23 game road losing streak to New Mexico to take on the Lobos. The Rebels started out slow this year in losses to Minnesota and Arizona and then they found themselves down 21-0 at the half vs the Chippewas. Since then this has been a different team as they outscored the Chippewas 310- in the 2nd half to win the game and then followed that up with a 38-7 destruction of FCS foe Western Illinois. In that game the Rebels had zero turnovers and zero penalties, and that is the first time in school history they accomplished that feat. Caleb Herring has assumed the QB duties and comes in having made all but one passing attempt in the last two games and has now completed 42 of-54 for the season, totaling 420 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions. Tim Cornett (69 carries, 319 yards, four TDs) has been the primary back out of the Rebels' backfield. However, Shaquille Lawrence-Murray has shown plenty of promise with 265 yards on just 22 carries. UNLV is being outscored by more than a touchdown, as foes are putting up 34.6 points per game. An inability to stop foes from converting on third down (30-of-66) and in the red zone (13- of-16) has hurt the Rebels.

New Mexico comes in at 1-2 on the year, with their lone win coming at UTEP, while losing at home to UTSA and at Pittsburgh. The Lobos are not know for a balanced offense as they come in averaging 267.3 ypg on the ground, while putting up just 76.7 ypg through the air. That's Navy-like numbers, but Bob Davie likes to run, run and run some more and play. Kasey Carrier is the primary back for the Lobos and he has totaled 367 yards and four touchdowns on 68 carries for the year. He currently leads the MWC in rushing yards (122.3 ypg). On defense New Mexico has been near the middle of the pack in the MWC. The Lobos rank ninth in points allowed (35.0 ppg) and seventh in total defense (440.8 ypg), while also being tied for last in the league with just nine tackles for loss.

Pick: The Rebels have lost 23 straight games on the road, but they are still favored in this game and I agree. This is a team that was picked by many to flirt with a bowl bid this year and they are on a roll right now and are playing with allot of confidence. Bobby Hauck continues to do a fine job here and by making the QB Switch from Sherry to Herring he has injected new life into this team after their rough start. Both teams are not good on defense, but the Rebels do have the edge there and they are more balanced on offense. Herring is hot and he will lead the Rebels to their 3 win in a row and finally break that long road losing streak.
