UFC 156 Aldo vs. Edgar Fight Predictions, Odds and Start Time

http://insidefights.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/ufc-156-aldo-vs-edgar-640x360-e1359563570320-500x250.jpg
The UFC featherweight title is on the line tonight as champion Jose Aldo squares off against former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. This evening’s UFC 156 card has a scheduled start time of 10:00pm ET; it can be seen live on Pay-Per-View. The latest Aldo vs. Edgar Fight Predictions and Odds are favoring the champ at -220 on the moneyline (risk $220 to win $100) while Edgar is drawing +170 odds to take Aldo’s strap. Tonight’s undercard is a stacked one as former light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans battles Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and former Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem takes on Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva. Evans and Overeem are both heavy favorites, coming in at -600 and -370 odds respectively.

Jose Aldo, who is regarded as one of the best pound for pound fighters on the planet, will face, arguably, his stiffest test yet tonight. The 26 year old Aldo, a 21-1 fighter from Manaus, Brazil, has knocked off some big name, quality opponents, including Cub Swanson, Urijah Faber, Kenny Florian, and Chad Mendes, but Frankie Edgar (15-3-1), without question, represents a huge threat to his belt.

Despite his recent run, Edgar is one of the more well-rounded MMA fighters, regardless of weight class, and his resume provides proof of an immense skill set. The New Jersey native and former All-American wrestler owns wins over Sean Sherk, BJ Penn, and Gray Maynard and he successfully defended his lightweight belt three times.

Edgar does ride a two fight losing streak into tonight’s showdown with Aldo, but both of those came in championship matches against current lightweight belt holder Benson Henderson. Edgar felt he won on each occasion, but the judges scored the first fight a unanimous decision win for Henderson and the second a split decision win in Henderson’s favor.

Frustrated with those developments, Edgar decided to drop down a weight class and take a run at Aldo’s belt. While weight cuts can be hard on some fighters, it should not bother Edgar, who wrestled at 133lbs. in college.

Both of these fighters are exceptional strikers (Aldo is well renowned for his thunderous kicks) and they each possess tremendous ground skills as well. While Aldo has only one career loss and has not suffered a setback since 2005, the inclination here is to take Edgar at +170. With Aldo and Edgar being so close in terms of skill, it only makes sense to take the dog in this one.

Parlay Suggestions: Evans (-600), Overeem (-370), Fitch (-250) $100 wins $107.48. Going Big: Evans (-600), Overeem (-370), Fitch (-250), Edgar (+170), McCall (+215) $100 wins $1664.60. Other Picks: Woodley (-135) and Dunham (-115).
