The much anticipated return of UFC champion Georges St. Pierre takes place tonight as he battles interim belt holder Carlos Condit for sole possession of the welterweight title. UFC 154: St. Pierre vs. Condit Fight Predictions and Odds have the French Canadian listed as a -290 moneyline favorite ($290 wins $100) in tonight’s main event scrap. Start time in this evening’s Pay-Per-View showcase, which will take place at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, is scheduled for 10:00pm ET.
The moment fight fans have been waiting for is finally here as one of MMA’s biggest draws steps back in the Octagon for the first time since April of 2011. Georges St. Pierre (22-2) is set to defend his title for an eighth consecutive time, but his victory seems less assured this time around.
St. Pierre is favored, of course, but he is coming off an extended layoff and rehab due to an ACL tear and subsequent surgery. He is also facing an incredibly dangerous and well rounded fighter in Carlos Condit (28-5).
Condit, a former WEC welterweight champion, is 5-1 since joining the UFC in 2009 and his lone loss inside the Octagon came via split decision in his first fight with the promotion (Martin Kampmann). The New Mexico native, who trains at Greg Jackson’s camp, most recently earned the interim belt with a unanimous decision win over former Strikeforce champion Nick Diaz.
Free Pick: Take St. Pierre -290 (suggestion: parlay with Johny Hendricks, Mark Hominick, and Sam Stout). It could be argued that Condit is the more polished standup fighter, but GSP is the superior wrestler and the stronger of the two fighters. Both are exceptional on the ground and both attack well from the guard (although St. Pierre seldom finds himself in the guard). The edge goes to GSP, though, who is a master tactician, and prepares as well as any fighter in the business both from a physical and mental standpoint. Condit is a cerebral fighter as well, but nobody executes a game plan like GSP.
