College football Saturday and we will see the UAB Blazers travel to Nashville, Tennessee to take on the Vanderbilt Commodores. The start time is 7:30 pm (Eastern) and the game will be televised on ESPN3. Current Odds have Vanderbilt listed as 21 point favorites, while the total sits at 55.5.

Analysis: The UAB Blazers started the year with BB road losses to Troy and LSU, but last week they finally got into the will column with a 52-28 win over FCS foe Northwestern State. Austin Brown is completing just 52% of his pass attempts for 576 yards, but he has tossed six touchdowns paired with only one interception in his three starts. The Blazers have a couple of solid deep threats in Jamarcus Nelson & Jamari Staples, who have combined for 471 yards and 6 Tds so far, with each averaging greater than 18 yards per catch. Offense really hasn't been an issue for this team, as they have averaged 399 ypg and 33.3 ppg on the year, but their defense has been real shaky, allowing 428.7 ypg and 39.3 ppg, which is 118^th in the nation. Jake Ganus leads the unit with 25 tackles and 2.0 TFL to go along with a forced fumble.

The Commodores have alternated wins and losses to start the year and enter this game at 2-2 so far. Last week Vandy took on a bad UMass team and pretty much slept walked through the game on their way to a lackluster 24-7 win. The Game was 10-7 at the half and stayed that way till the 4^th when Vandy seemed to wake up a bit putting two TD's on the board. Austyn Carta-Samuels has been turnover prone with four interceptions, but he's completing nearly 61 percent of his passes for 889 yards and six touchdowns. Carta-Samuels threw for 219 yards with two 2 Tds and a pick vs Umass. Jordan Matthews is one of the nation's best receivers, ranking fourth in the FBS in both catches (32) and yards (471) while scoring three touchdowns. Offensively the Commodores are pretty average, scoring 30.5 ppg on the year, but they have been pretty solid on defense, ranking 46^th in total defense (363.8 ypg) and 48^th in points allowed (21 ppg). The Commodores won the only previous matchup between the two squads back in 1996, 31-15.

Pick: I have a feeling that the Blazers have a shot at keeping this one with in this number. They really won't do it with their defense, but their offense is capable of putting up enough points to keep it close. Also note that Vandy has a game vs SEC foe Missouri on deck, so they may be looking ahead here. I say Vandy by no more than 14 in this one.
