The Los Angeles Dodgers are on the road today as they take on the Cincinnati Reds in matinee Major League Baseball action. The game is scheduled for an 12:35 p.m. start time and it will be televised live in both markets. Currently the odds for the game have the Dodgers listed as a comfortable favorite to pick up the victory on the road.
The Dodgers still hold a small lead in the National League West, it's now 2.5 games over the San Francisco Giants. Both of those clubs are just 4-6 their last 10 games overall, so even though the Dodgers have not been playing great lately, the Giants haven't been able to gain any ground. The Dodgers would have a much bigger lead in the division if they were able to put together a decent record on the road, but they find themselves 10 games under the .500 mark there.
Today they give the ball to Zack Greinke, who has been one of the bet pitchers in the league all season. Greinke is 13-3 with a 1.67 ERA in 25 starts, 11 of which have come on the road. Greinke's road ERA of 1.98 in 77 1/3 innings is very impressive, he's allowed only four home runs in that time as well. Opponents are hitting just .190 off Greinke in his road starts. Current Reds own an average of .222 against him, Joey Votto has three home runs and 12 hits in 27 plate appearances (.444), he's doubled four times as well.
Votto owns better road splits when it comes to hitting, but he'll look to lead the Reds in this one today.
The Reds are sending youngster Anthony DeSclafani to the mound. He's 7-9 with a 3.97 ERA over 24 starts, but his road numbers are not good. Pitching in that ballpark can certainly inflate things, but overall he's 3-6 there with a 5.85 ERA while opponents are hitting .327 over the span of 60 full innings. There are sample sizes and then there are instances like this. DeSclafani has given up 10 home runs at home compared to just five on the road.
Current Dodgers are hitting .271 against him over 48 at bats. Carl Crawford, Joc Pederson and Jimmy Rollins each own a home run against him. Rollins also leads the Dodgers with three base hits in his at bats against DeSclafani.
