Thursday Major League Baseball Los Angeles Angels at Detroit Tigers Start Time, Odds, Free Pick

The Detroit Tigers are hosting the Los Angeles Angels in matinee Major League Baseball action. The game is scheduled for an 1:05 p.m. start time and it will be televised live in both markets. Currently the odds for the game have the Angels listed as a small favorite to pick up the victory on the road.

The Angels were humbled in last night's game, although Chris Iannetta broke up the fun for Justin Verlander and the Tigers. Iannetta hit a leadoff double (chalky) in the ninth to end Verlander's bid for another no-hitter, but Detroit did win the game as their used-to-be dominant ace showed more signs of heading back in that direction. And despite the record, Verlander has been a bright spot for the Tigers, especially in the last month and a half.

Today the Angels will bring a better approach, one would guess. They face grizzled veteran Randy Wolf, who was not at all bad in his first start for Detroit after spending the entire season in the Blue Jays minor league system. Wolf said he was just looking for another chance and although Detroit looks to be out of any potential playoff spot, Wolf can certainly help them as the season winds down.

Current Angels are hitting .274 against Wolf in 117 plate appearances. Albert Pujols has three home runs, Shane Victorino owns one as well. David Freese, who has been on the disabled list and won't play today, has 10 career hits off Wolf.

The Angels will throw Matt Shoemaker in this matinee game. He's 5-9 on the year with a 4.76 ERA in 21 starts. Shoemaker has made 11 starts on the road this season and boasts a 5.78 ERA, allowing opponents to hit .283 against him over 62 1/3 innings.

Shoemaker has struggled in the month of August, holding an 8.78 ERA over three starts. Current Tigers are hitting just .161 against him over 31 at bats. Ian Kinsler has two of the five hits for the Tigers against Shoemaker.

The Detroit offense was solid last night, scoring five runs and leaving the yard a few times. Can they continue that trend today? Even with the veteran on the mound, look for the Tigers to win as Shoemaker has struggled.

Movie Oakland Raiders: 2015 NFL Free Picks & Betting Odds

Vegas betting expert Steve Fezzik doesn’t expect the bad situation in Oakland to get much better this season. This AFC West team may have some improvements in terms of personnel, but Jack Del Rio is the latest in a carousel of ever-changing mediocre coaches, and Fezzik doesn’t expect he is the guy to turn this team around. He also thinks people are overstating Derek Carr’s abilities at quarterback, as he may do well in the fourth quarter, but his numbers are padded with garbage time performance.
