Thursday Major League Baseball Boston Red Sox at New York Yankees Start Time, Odds

The New York Yankees take on the Boston Red Sox tonight in Major League Baseball action. The game is scheduled for a 7:05 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on the MLB Network. Currently the betting odds for the game have the Yankees listed as a big favorite to pick up the win at home.

The Red Sox picked up a nice win over the Yankees on Wednesday night, getting a solid game on the mound from knuckleballer Steven Wright. Tonight the Red Sox look to pick up another win on the road.

New York had been hot coming into Wednesday's game, scoring a bunch of runs and belting the ball all over the place. They struggled at the plate against Wright, collecting just five hits while scoring a single run.

Eduardo Rodriguez will pitch tonight for the Red Sox. He's 6-3 with a 4.34 ERA and he's picked up two wins in his last three decisions. Rodriguez pitched five innings in his last start against the Rays, giving up three earned runs but earning a no decision. He's been a solid rookie for the Red Sox this year and he's actually got better numbers on the road this year, going 3-1 in five starts with a 2.93 ERA. He made a start a few weeks ago against the Yankees, tossing 6 1/3 innings while allowing two earned runs and walking one.

Current Yankees have a .238 average against him, both Jacoby Ellsbury and Alex Rodriguez have hit home runs off of him.

The Yankees will send C.C. Sabathia to the mound. He's had a terrible season with a 4-8 record and a 5.54 ERA. The veteran has had some success against Red Sox hitters in his career, allowing them to hit just .233 against him in 219 at bats. Mike Napoli and David Ortiz have each homered twice, Ryan Hanigan has gone deep as well.

Sabathia's splits this year have not been kind, especially at home. His 6.80 ERA inside Yankee Stadium has come over 41 innings of work, opponents are hitting .318 against him there.

The Red Sox have a chance to get a win here on the road against a veteran lefty that obviously is on the decline. The Yankees have been hot lately, but a nice low-scoring win last night has to give the Red Sox some confidence in this one.

Vegas betting expert Steve Fezzik doesn’t expect the bad situation in Oakland to get much better this season. This AFC West team may have some improvements in terms of personnel, but Jack Del Rio is the latest in a carousel of ever-changing mediocre coaches, and Fezzik doesn’t expect he is the guy to turn this team around. He also thinks people are overstating Derek Carr’s abilities at quarterback, as he may do well in the fourth quarter, but his numbers are padded with garbage time performance.
