The Virginia Cavaliers will play the Texas Tech Red Raiders in the National Championship game of the NCAA Tournament tonight. The game is scheduled for a 9:20 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on CBS. The national championship odds for the game have the Cavaliers favored to pick up the victory.

This isn’t going to be the most watched national championship game, but it still has the chance to be a very good contest. Both Virginia and Texas Tech are excellent defensive clubs and the Red Raiders have absolutely been the best defensive team during the tournament.

Texas Tech’s opponents are scoring less than 56 points per game in the five games this tournament and it makes any lead the Red Raiders feel twice as big. Michigan State shot just 32 percent in the last game, including knocking down just seven of 24 shots from beyond the arc.

Virginia survived once again, as Kyle Guy hit for three free throws after getting fouled near the end of the game. Controversial ending, but now the Cavaliers are playing for a national title. Their defense has also been very solid this tournament, allowing opponents to score just under 59 points a game.

The total on this game is extremely low, and we’ll see if the game is played in the 60s. Texas Tech will have a better chance if Tariq Owens plays, he’s the big-time shot blocker at the back of the Red Raiders defense that has played well during the tournament.

The defense will clearly be the name of the game tonight. Hopefully, it makes for a great game.
