It has been a while since Tennessee contended for anything other than a middle of the pack finish in the SEC East, and, if the odds makers are correct, the once proud football school can expect more of the same this season. Tennessee Volunteers 2013 BCS National Championship Odds have the team listed at 100-1 to claim its second BCS title. The Volunteers are also a long shot to win the SEC, presently drawing 25-1 odds to top college football’s most ballyhooed league. And the SEC East crown looks as though it will elude Tennessee as well; the Volunteers are set at 8-1 odds to win the seven team division.

Tennessee’s fall from grace continued last season with the program finishing 5-7 under the second year of Head Coach Derek Dooley’s leadership. Should Dooley wish to extend his tenure at the university beyond three or four years, the Volunteers will need to show some major progress in 2012.

Fortunately for Dooley, Tennessee, which returns 20 starters and a potential star in junior quarterback Tyler Bray, could be in line for a jump in the standings. However, the Volunteers will still have to navigate a schedule loaded with landmines as they face certain to potential losses in home meetings with Florida, Alabama, and Missouri. Tennessee’s road schedule also features at least three major hazards in Georgia, Mississippi State, and South Carolina.
